Candy Bar Cookies

Every year the week after Halloween I’m a bit overwhelmed with the amount of candy we have in our house. I go through a few phases, candy overload eating all my favorites, then eating ones I don’t even like just because they are there and then can’t believe there is still loads of candy! One year I even threw most of it away to avoid all of it. Dallin was so sad! Sorry honey! I’ve learned my lesson and I think I’ve come up with something that works for all of us! Candy Bar Cookies! I first sort the chocolate candies from the gummy/sugary candies. My idea is that the chocolate candies are better in cookies and the gummy/sugary candies make quick, fun snacks and they also work really well for gingerbread houses in December or Love Shacks in February! I’ve even heard some people hold on to Halloween candy and use it as candy in Christmas stockings! So resourceful! Some families to Switch Witch where you leave all of your Halloween Candy out the night of Halloween and then the Switch Witch comes and switches your candy with a new toy! All fun options but I think we all know my favorite! Cookies!

Not only is this a fun was to mix up (literally haha) all the candy from Halloween, but they are super tasty! You can also freeze the cookie dough balls! Scoop them into balls (I love THIS scoop) on a parchment or aluminum foil lined cookie sheet. Let freeze for 30 minutes. Then place in gallon freezer bag, I like to label what it is and write the baking instructions on the bag, and return to freezer! Once you get your sweet tooth back in a few weeks you’ll have the yummiest cookie dough ready to bake! Bake cookie dough as your recipe directs!

I like to sort my candy by what sounds good together! Meaning caramel and nougat candy bars sound good together, but mint and peanut butter do not. I make a separate batch for both of those! For my cookie base I use a regular chocolate chip cookie dough recipe, just sub all the fun candy/candy bars for the chocolate chips! I like to stud the cookies with extra candy and chocolate chips after they come out of the oven for good measure!

If you’re needing some help finding a good chocolate chip cookie dough base I did a Chocolate Chip Cookie Hunt a few years ago and documented it all over on my old blog ruthannestrong.blogspot.com!

No matter what recipe you choose remember to top them with some extra chopped candy bars and M&Ms, it makes them look so pretty! If you’re making the dough balls before you can still press the extra pieces on before you freeze them too.
