Olivia’s Donut Shoppe Cake Smash

This post may contain affiliate links, but all opinions are my own.

Donuts are just so cute!  Add them to a cake and serve them to a sweet little baby and they get even more adorable!  While we were taking Olivia’s Donut Shoppe pictures I wanted to have a smash cake for her and make it myself.  I had high hopes of making it closer to her birthday in December, but I was a little busy…so I made it in March, months after her 1st birthday and we took pictures the same day and it turned out JUST FINE!  Something that I’ve learned over the years is it’s ok to celebrate things early, late, on the day or not at all, there is a time and season for everything, you can enjoy life no matter what the time! If you’d like to see the time lapse of me assembling and decorating this cake you can go to my YouTube channel HERE!  She was so cute when she saw the cake, she took off each donut and took a bite out of each one then placed each back on the cake, she never even took a bite out of the actual cake! haha So I made a whole cake for her just to eat a few bites of store bought donuts.  Love that for me. Sounds about right. haha!

For Olivia’s first birthday we had an Olivia’s Donut Shoppe party! It was the sweetest theme for the sweetest little one year old!

Her birthday is in the thick of the holidays so I opted to have a Nothing Bundt Cakes bundtlet for her smash cake at the party and honestly it was the perfect smash cake! Perfect size, and not too much frosting! It was great! In the back of my mind I had always hoped that I would make her a cake and take some pictures close to her birthday after. Well close is relative so a few months after turned out to be “close” and it still works! haha

My cutie husband and I set the scene of her donut shoppe (you can see more of that photo shoot HERE) with an adorable little market he made himself that we used for decor for her party and a gift to her from us for her birthday I’ll link some options if you aren’t in the mood to make one of your own, the cutest options HERE, HERE and HERE! That last one is totally the one I would have picked for a bakery!

I got a fun play cash register at IKEA, but it no longer is being sold, I’ll link some options that are even MORE adorable than the one we have like THIS one or THIS. I also made an Open/Closed sign to go in a double sided frame, perfect for playing shop!

I had to fill up her shoppe with a lot of play donuts! We still use them in her shop and every year when her Donut Shoppe opens up to the public on National Donut Day!

I also had a couple stacks of pink bakery boxes and the top one tied with a white ribbon to give the perfect finishing touch. If I were to retake these pictures I think I may have wrapped all the boxes to give the appearance like they were all tied.

I loved that her smash cake was a light pink frosted funfetti cake with a fun mix of sprinkles and mini donuts! I can’t find the same sprinkle mix I used but I love THIS mix of sprinkles mixed with THIS one for the same theme , and THESE toppers are so realistic and fun!

I used a small white scalloped cake stand to serve her little smash cake on. It fit so perfectly! I bought mine years ago at a local book store but I love THIS super similar and affordable option.

I was so happy with how this photo shoot turned out. Little Olivia was so adorable even though she didn’t want to take one bite of her actual cake and one bite of every single one of the donuts! haha!

For her outfit I dressed her in the same outfit she wore to her 1st birthday party! Her cute donut dress, gold moccasins (old), and white bow! Here is a similar dress, gold shoes and bow set if those are not available currently.

Donuts have been a fun part of our story! On one of our first “dates”, well I call it a date, Dallin says we were just hanging out but he bought my drink and donut! We went and got donuts and milk at a local grocery store Dallin use to work and talked while we ate them. It was a lot of fun! On a real date, Donut Day 2014 Dallin took me all the way to Provo to get a free Krispy Kreme donut just because! Part of his proposal was a donut from our favorite bakery, Beyond Glaze! We had donuts inspired by that same bakery at our wedding reception. Announced we were having ‘Something we love more than donuts coming…’ a little baby girl in the summer of 2017, little Liv! So Olivia’s Donut Shoppe just felt so very fitting!

We now celebrate once a year, every year (I’ve watched Trolls too many times! haha!) on Donut Day by opening up Olivia’s Donut Shoppe to our friends, family and really any one that wants to come! We use to give free donuts but Liv wants to step up her game this year and make some money because she’s a strong independent woman! 🙂

Liv’s little powdered sugar coated mouth is just too precious!
